Jeremy Marshall

Acupuncture is a tried and tested system of medicine that has been used for thousands of years in Asia. It works by inserting fine needles into certain points on the body, rebalancing the flow of energy and promoting its self healing properties.

Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in many areas including:

  • Musculoskeletal problems; back ache, sciatica, tennis elbow, arthritis etc.
  • Emotional problems; Anxiety, stress, insomnia, depression, addiction etc.
  • Digestive problems such as IBS, crohn`s disease, bloating, weight gain etc.
  • Gynaecology; PMT, painful periods, infertility, IVF, menopause, pregnancy.
  • Immunity; recurrent colds, respiratory problems, asthma, eczema, migraine.

Jeremy holds a BSc Honours in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council. He previously worked at the Gateway clinic in London, the only multi bed acupuncture clinic on the NHS, which focused on addictions, anxiety and musculoskeletal problems. He also completed further training in these areas, aswell as the treatment of babies and children through a non needle technique. Before moving to East Sussex he worked out of a busy GPs surgery in Bedfordshire, where he developed an interest in womens health issues such as menopause, fertility and pregnancy.

He is a strong believer in empowering patients by involving them in treatment, and often prescribes dietary advice, exercises or meditations to support the healing process.

He has also been practicing Tai chi and Qi gong for over 11 years and currently runs classes in Brighton and Lewes. His love of Tai chi led him to study acupuncture, and also to China to deepen his knowledge of the martial arts and energy work.

CAROLINE WHITTICASE
Dip. C

Counselling offers a safe place, separate from your daily life, where you can explore issues or feelings which are causing you difficulty.

What issues do people bring to counselling?
Anything and everything!
You may have difficult thoughts, feelings or behaviour to deal with (your own or others), or may want to discuss responses to recent or past events and experiences. Whatever the issue, counselling is increasingly shown to be of lasting benefit.
You don't have to feel you've reached crisis point before seeking help.

What sorts of areas can be helped by counselling?

  • Relationship, family or personal issues
  • Loss, including separation, bereavement or redundancy
  • The trauma of abuse
  • Low self esteem or confidence
  • Stress related ill health, depression or anxiety
  • Inner conflict
  • Addiction problems & eating disorders
  • Self-development & personal insight

Caroline's Approach to Counselling
Caroline works with individuals, couples and families, for long-term and short-term work. As an Integrated Counsellor, Caroline often encompasses several different strands of therapy according to the needs of the client and to the nature of the issue.

As a counsellor Caroline will not usually offer advice (as such) but will aim to work with you to provide an opportunity to explore and understand issues which are impacting negatively on your life.  Caroline believes that the answers lie within us all.  Through counselling Caroline can help you find your own solutions that will empower you to move forward with greater understanding of the person you are and the person you would like to be.

Caroline holds professional indemnity insurance and she attends regular clinical supervision sessions. Her practice follows the codes and ethics as laid down by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Fees
Caroline always offers an initial consultation free of charge.
Any subsequent sessions are charged at £37.50 per hour for an individual or £40.00 for couples.

GESTALT COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY

LOUISE FORDHAM
Couns dip, MBACP

Counselling offers a safe, supportive and confidential space for you to discuss problems and life experiences. Counselling can help you to explore and understand more about yourself: difficult thoughts, feelings, needs and conflicts – without being judged or criticised. This can be supportive and insightful, giving you tools to deal with life differently. Gestalt is a German word which means ‘whole’ or ‘complete’. The Gestalt approach is holistic, and believes that given the right support, we have a natural tendency towards health.

Louise has worked within the field of natural health for nine years. Originally trained in bodywork and healing, she became interested in how physical and emotional health is affected by the mind, and began training as a counsellor. She’s been working as a counsellor for several years in Equinox drug and alcohol service and a GP surgery, and now works in private practice in Lewes and Brighton. She has considerable experience of working with anxiety, addictions, stress, burn out, depression, loss and bereavement, relationships, and search for meaning and identity.

SARAH PLUMB

LCHE, RSHom

Sarah completed a 4 year training course at the Centre for Homeopathic Education in London. She is a registered member of The Society of Homeopaths and abides by their Code of Ethics and Practice. She practices in Brighton and Lewes.

Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine that works alone or alongside conventional treatment. It is a gentle and effective form of healthcare which is suitable for your whole family regardless of their age. It is safe to use during pregnancy and labour, for babies and the elderly.

Homeopathy uses a holistic approach, taking into account all aspects of the individual. During a homeopathic consultation equal importance is given to your mental, emotional and physical symptoms. Homeopaths recognise that symptoms of illness are the body’s attempt to heal itself and we use these symptoms as clues to find the most appropriate remedy for you. The remedy chosen is based on the law of similars - “treating like with like”. Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating your body’s own natural healing process.

Homeopathy can help individuals overcome a wide range of physical, mental and emotional problems whether they are acute or chronic conditions. Some examples are shown below. If you would like to know how homeopathy can help you please feel free to contact me.

LYNNE RUSSELL

BSc FSDSHom MARH
Lynne Russell
Chantry Homeopathy

I am an experienced professional homeopath with practices in Lewes, Storrington and Billingshurst. I treat adults and children with a wide range of conditions and have a special interest in working with people through challenging times in their lives.

Transition
There can be many times when we feel as if we are being challenged. Often these periods of transition are born of crisis such as a change in our health, at home or work. This can often offer us great potential for personal growth and happiness. This personal process potentially mirroring the transitions we hope to see within society.

I enjoy working with people at these stages in their lives. Homeopathy truly is a medicine of transition, able to respond to and embrace change, supporting us through the twists and turns of our paths. The safe, reflective space offered allows us not only to work with remedies, but also to become more aware of, and explore the connections that are unfolding in our lives.

Natural Alternatives at the Menopause
Menopause is one such transition and it can be a time of great change for women. Although a natural process it can bring with it a range of troublesome and difficult symptoms as well as emotional challenges. I specialise in helping women at this time in their lives using individually tailored remedies and dietary advice as support during this period of transition. I offer help if you are on HRT and need to stop, if you cannot take HRT because of your medical history, or if you simply wish to use natural alternatives at the menopause.

Homeopathy may help to alleviate some of the symptoms women can experience such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleeping difficulties, mood swings, painful joints, etc. You may wish to find out more about how to protect yourself against the worry of osteoporosis. Whatever stage of the menopause you are in, using remedies and dietary measures as support may not only help you during the menopause itself, but could also help improve overall health now and for the years to come.

The menopause can also prove to be a challenging time for women emotionally, often compounded by and resulting in other changes at work and at home. Homeopathy can offer support and help women to embrace this female milestone as an opportunity for change and contentment.

Please visit my website at  www.chantryhealth.com or phone if you would like to arrange a free 15 minute phone or mini-consultation to discuss whether I might be able to help.

I look forward to hearing from you
Lynne

HYDROTHERM MASSAGE

RICK STONE

Rick has been a massage therapist for over 10 years.  For the last 7 years he has been specialising in Hydrotherm massage and is part of the National Training Team.  Rick has worked with some of the top Physiotherapists in the country and helped introduce Hydrotherm massage into the National spinal unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Hydrotherm massage differs from other types of massage because the treatment is carried out whilst the client is lying face up on warm water filled cushions.  Rick uses oil and works between the clients back and the water cushion, which allows pressure to be upwards rather than downwards.  As the body is on warm water the muscles are relaxed and there is less resistance which means a very deep massage without the pain.

Hydrotherm is an ideal treatment for all ages and can be used to help many medical conditions, muscle strains, postural correction and relaxation.  It is also perfect for all stages of pregnancy.

To book a treatment or for further information please contact Rick on 07722 005905 or visit the website www.stoneshydrothermclinic.co.uk

REFLEXOLOGY AND MASSAGE

BARBARA PALLONI

I have been a holistic therapist since 2003.  I am fully qualified in Aromatherapy, Advanced Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Crystal Therapy and Swedish Massage.  My qualifications (MAR, MICHT, ITEC) also include an Honours degree in Linguistics and a teaching certificate in further and adult education.

I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists (Aor) and of the Federation of Holistic therapists (FHT).  I work as a holistic/massage therapist with the charity organization Active LightWorks, which aims to raise public awareness of complementary therapies to communities and groups who cannot afford them, or are not aware of them.

I work for Lewes and Wealden District council as a mobile massage therapist to elderly people in their own homes.  I run a clinic in Lewes at the River Clinic on Wednesday afternoons.  I have my own private mobile practise offering complementary treatments throughout Sussex.

At present, I provide aromatherapy treatments to the staff, nurses and doctors at the hospital cancer department.  In addition, I am offering low cost massages to single mothers and unemployed people at the unemployment centre in Brighton with other therapists from Active LightWorks, together with providing holistic treatments to primary teachers as part of a research project.  The aim of the research project is to prove that holistic therapies improve teachers' performance at work and reduce absenteeism by relaxing and nourishing body, mind and spirit.

I believe that integrating complementary medicine alongside orthodox methods of diagnosis and treatment provides a more holistic approach to the prevention and cure of illness.  Stress is the cause for 75% of today’s diseases and it can be reduced by promoting complementary therapies among the public, together with a more balanced diet, exercise and relaxation techniques.

My timetable:
River clinic: Wednesdays 2-6pm

I can also provide holistic treatments at your home or place of work.

ROB BLACKBURN

“Helping people in Lewes and surrounding areas to find relief from health problems that are often considered a fact of life but don’t have to be.”

You know, a lot of people suffer with health problems that are considered a fact of life or too insignificant for conventional medicine to deal with, yet they often cause people immense pain or mental anguish. Often the only solution seems to be ever-larger doses of drugs that do little to relieve the symptoms.

What I do is help people heal these problems that affect their day-to-day quality of life, in a way that effects lasting change, reduces their need for drugs and brings them to a state of improved wellness.

How do I do this? Using the nourishing hands-on bodywork techniques of Shiatsu. You lie fully clothed on a futon and I use various stretches, massage techniques and acupressure points to help you back to a state of complete wellness.
